The wheel turns
Feb. 5th, 2005 01:36 pmWell, I did it. After 7 years of putting up with Uncle Bill's demonic attempts at world domination I'm back on the Mac standard (well, partly at least). In fact, I'm sitting in Starbucks in Muswell Hill updating things via wireless DSL. The joys of modern computing and the inbuilt connections on this cute little iBook. Unfortunately, while I can get it to dial up via its modem, to connect wi-fi in Starbucks via Airport, and to share files with my PC via Ethernet (2gigs of books, art and pdfs transferred!) I've yet to work out how to get it to share the DSL on my XP box. I'm missing something obvious I'm sure - after all the regular networking is fine - but I'll get there.
The software is working fine at last (though it took me two days to work out where the Appleworks and Office X demo were hidden) and they threw in a copy of iLife05, so I have all the photo/music/video tools I'll ever need :) I need to find a Mac LJ client though (any suggestions out there?) and to sort out antivirus stuff.
In other news, my doc has referred me to the local hospital for tests on my ears. I've had occasional issues for a while but for the last few weeks I've been having problems with my left ear - a sign of getting old the quack says and time for some tests. When precisely I'm off to the Whittington I don't know - sometime this side of hell freezing over if the NHS is anything to go by.
